Shipping and Pickup

Types of Order:

This Store (store.nijiya.com) offers 3 different types of order.

1. Online Store

   • This type of order will ship items to an address in 50 U.S. states. It cannot be shipped to Japan or other countries. This type of order will mostly require a shipping fee.

2. Cherry Gift

   • This type of order is for Cherry Gift items available for pre-order from May through June and the items can only be delivered to addresses in Japan. They are pre-orders and the items are usually delivered starting in late June through mid July.

3. Special Order (Store pickup)

   • This type of order is for special, pre-order items for store pickup. These include Christmas Cakes and Year-end Osechi Ryori items. They are pre-ordered and can be picked up at our retail stores at specific date and time.

The following sections discuss shipping information for each type of order.

1 - Shipping for Online Store

Lead time:

We will ship most orders within 1 to 3 business days after your order date. For example, if your order is placed on a Monday, your order will be assembled and sent to the carrier on the Wednesday or Thursday of the same week.

Transit time:

Since our Shipment Center is located in Torrance, CA, and all orders are shipped from the Center, the transit time varies according to the location of the delivery address. The choice of the carrier service also affects the transit time.

For example, if the order is shipped via FedEx Ground, then it normally takes 4 days to arrive at a New York address. If, however, the order is shipped via USPS priority service, the item arrives in 2 to 3 days. We reserve the right to choose the best carrier for a particular order, based on such factors as the box dimension and weight.

Delivery time:

The delivery time, the actual time required for your order to arrive at the destination address will be determined by adding Lead Time and Transit Time. For example, if the Lead Time is 2 to 3 business days and the Transit Time is 3 to 6 business days, the total delivery time is 5 to 9 business days. Our current Lead Time is 1 to 3 business days. The Transit ime will vary depending on the delivery address and the carrier service used.

Carrier and service:

We use USPS, UPS and FedEx. With USPS, we mostly use Priority Mail service. With UPS, we mainly use UPS Ground. With FedEx, we use FedEx Ground / Home Delivery, and occasionally, FedEx Express for boxes within certain dimension and weight.

Handling fees:

We do not charge any Handling Fee. All expenses incurred preparing your order are included in the Shipping Fee.

Shipping fees:

Since we are located in Torrance, CA, we incur greater cost to ship to areas further away in distance. Therefore we have structured our shipping fee as in the table below. We devide 50 states into 3 delivery areas: West, Mid and East. These areas have different shipping fee rates from one another. The final shipping fee is calculated with a rate based on the total amount of items ordered. The delivery area is determined by the state of the delivery address of your order. The combination of delivery area and item total amount determines the actual rate applied to calculate the shipping fee.

Example: your order is for a delivery address in Seattle, WA. The total amount of items in the order is $35 ("item total amount"). Then the shipping fee will be $7.00, which is a flat fee for item total amount of up to $40 and for the Mid area, which Seattle belongs to.

Example 2: If the order is for the same address, but the item total amount is $80, then the shipping fee is $12, which is 15% of the item total amount.

3 - Shipping for Special Order (Store Pickup)

This will be updated before the next Christmas and Yearend saesons.
