Orita-En Tea Okumidori Green

From Orita-En, which produces safe and secure Japanese tea without the use of pesticides, this is a special product made from only the first eighty-eight night plucking(*1) of a rare variety of tea, "Okumidori".

Orita-En is located in Chiran, a warm and sunny area in the southern part of Kagoshima Prefecture that is very suitable for tea cultivation. The Chiran tea grown under favorable conditions is more fragrant and tasty than tea grown in other areas. We are particular about the soil preparation, and we are committed to each and every step in the process of growing tea in our own garden.

Hachijuhachiya is one of the seasonal festivals, which is used as a guide for the change of seasons. As the name suggests, it is the 88th day counting from Risshun (the first day of spring), which falls around May 2 every year. The legend says, "If you drink new tea plucked on the 88th day of the month, you will not get sick.
